Photographed in Kalymnos, this work is part of the Ethos series.
A single figure stands centered against the horizon of the sea. The diving helmet fully encloses the head, removing identity and reducing the subject to form.
The image is constructed through symmetry and reduction. Two planes—sea and sky—are held by a single vertical presence.
There is no gesture, no narrative, no progression. The image exists as a fixed state.
The helmet becomes the point of gravity. Its form holds the composition in place.
This work has become one of the most recognized images from the Ethos series.
Part of Ethos, a long-term body of work documenting traditions and cultural identity across Greece.
