BLACK AND WHITE ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
Photographed in Santorini, this black and white image is structured around balance between mass and light.
The composition is built through a sequence of architectural volumes. A curved foreground wall anchors the frame, while successive forms rise behind it. The arch on the left acts as a vertical counterpoint to the clustered structures on the right.
The environment consists of dense Cycladic architecture. Surfaces are continuous and unbroken, with minimal openings. A rock face enters from the right edge, introducing an irregular element against the controlled geometry.
The relationship between subject and environment is compressive. The built forms interlock, creating a unified structure. The sky remains open, allowing the composition to breathe while maintaining tension between solid and void.
Light enters from the upper right. It defines edges and separates planes without flattening them. The surfaces retain texture, while the highlights remain controlled. The rendering emphasizes transitions between light and shadow rather than extremes.
Part of the Chorōs series, a body of work studying rhythm and musical structure within static visual compositions.
