BLACK AND WHITE ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
Photographed in Santorini, this black and white image is structured around authority through vertical mass.
The composition is dominated by a central vertical volume that rises prominently in the frame. Secondary structures flank it on both sides, while a dome with a cross appears in the upper right, partially obscured. The passage at the base remains narrow and contained.
The environment consists of dense Cycladic architecture. Volumes are compact and continuous, with minimal separation between structures. Surfaces are smooth, with subtle wear visible near the lower edges.
The relationship between elements is hierarchical. The central mass establishes dominance, while surrounding forms support it. The dome introduces a secondary focal point but remains visually subordinate.
Light falls diagonally across the scene, creating a strong division between illuminated and shadowed planes. The rendering emphasizes contrast along edges and curvature, reinforcing the solidity of the forms.
Part of the Chorōs series, a body of work studying rhythm and musical structure within static visual compositions.
Printed as an archival pigment print on Hahnemühle fine art paper.
