Photographed in Tristomo, Karpathos, this image captures the preparation and distribution of bread following a religious gathering.
The composition is structured horizontally. A table spans the entire frame, forming a continuous plane across which objects are arranged—baskets, cut pieces, and a large round loaf.
Two figures define the scene. On the left, the priest stands still, contained within the doorway. On the right, a man leans forward, mid-action, cutting into the bread. The contrast between stillness and movement establishes the internal balance of the image.
The wall behind them remains empty, allowing the elements in the foreground to carry the weight of the composition. Openings—the doorway and the window—frame the figures without interrupting the structure.
Texture plays a central role. Fabric, bread, and stone are rendered with equal clarity, creating a dense but controlled visual field.
There is no emphasis on ceremony itself. The image focuses on the act—repetitive, physical, and communal.
