BLACK AND WHITE ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
Photographed in Santorini, this black and white image is structured around interference within a uniform field.
The composition is centered on a small plastic object placed among dense volcanic pebbles. The object is isolated through tone and shape, disrupting the otherwise continuous texture. Its orientation introduces a directional element within a non-directional field.
The environment is entirely ground-based. The frame is filled with stones of varying size and density, creating a compact and repetitive surface. No horizon or external reference is present, reinforcing the closed nature of the composition.
The relationship between elements is based on contrast and disruption. The organic irregularity of the pebbles is interrupted by the smooth, defined geometry of the object. This creates a clear distinction between natural and introduced form.
Light is controlled and even. It reveals surface detail without creating dominant shadows. The rendering emphasizes texture and separation, allowing the object to remain distinct within the dense field.
Part of the Chorōs series, a body of work studying rhythm and musical structure within static visual compositions.
Printed as an archival pigment print on Hahnemühle fine art paper.
