Caryatis, Greece
Caryatis is a black and white photography project by George Tatakis, developed over more than a decade across Greece, focusing on traditional women’s costume through directed portraiture and controlled environments. Each image is constructed rather than observed, positioning the figure in precise relation to space, garment, and surrounding elements. The project has received 24 international awards and has been exhibited internationally, with works published in The New York Times, LFI, and National Geographic. Caryatis is not an ethnographic record, but a formal study of presence, identity, and continuity expressed through a consistent visual language.
